Add Your Name to the Growing Petition Encouraging Congress to Enforce the No Surprises Act

Congress passed the No Surprises Act to protect patients from surprise medical bills and to ensure fair, timely payment for the care you provide. But in the years since, insurers have found ways around it by treating the law’s arbitration process as optional rather than binding. In more than 20,000 disputes sent to federal arbitration, insurers have offered $0 for covered care, and in some cases tried to pay less than a dime for critical brain and spine imaging, or under a dollar for lifesaving emergency treatment.

The No Surprises Act Enforcement Act (H.R. 4710 / S. 2420) is designed to close those gaps. It would put real teeth behind arbitration rulings by penalizing parties that miss payment deadlines after a final decision, give federal regulators explicit authority to enforce those rulings, raise the civil penalties for balance-billing violations, and require regular public reporting on enforcement actions and the most common violations. As lead sponsor Rep. Greg Murphy, M.D. has said, the bill “cracks down on those that are willfully defying the law” while doubling down on protections for patients.

A growing number of providers across every state and specialty have already added their names to a petition urging Congress to advance this bill as introduced, without changes that would weaken it.
